Action! Eight films shot in the Houston Area

Sometimes it feels like the only films shot in Texas are shot in Austin. While it may be true that anyone who spends more than three days in that fair city ends up in the background of at least one movie, Houston is not without its share of films that show off our distinctive skyline. Houstonist has prepared a list of films that you can netflix and carry with you on extended trips to avoid homesickness. In no particular order:

1. Reality Bites – Numerous shots of Ben Stiller, Ethan Hawke and Wynona traipsing through downtown and hanigng out at the House of Pies. Ironically, it’s Ethan Hawke’s character that gets fired for stealing a candy bar from a fictional newsstand near the Lyric Center.

Sidekicks2. Powder – He’s a pale freak that resurrects a deer shot by a hunter. He’d do better walking up and down 2920.

3. Sidekicks – Chuck Norris and that guy from Seaquest kicking ass and taking names.

4. Apollo 13 – Houston, we have a problem. We also have great BBQ.

5. Robocop 2 – It takes a village to raise a child and a robot to keep the streets of Houston clean.

6. Terms of Endearment – Another movie with an astronaut, though not quite as exciting as the other one. Is this the best movie made in Houston? Probably.

7. Jason’s Lyric – A young Jada Pinkett Smith in what may be one of the worst movies made in Houston. Check out the Metro buses and what I believe is the Fifth Ward.

8. Tin Cup – Kevin Costner and Cheech Marin, what could be better? Mostly shot on the golf courses in northern Harris County and southern Moco, this is probably the exact opposite of Jason’s Lyric.
