Houston police arrested Alain Robert, the French "Spiderman," as he tried to climb the side of One Houston Center this morning. Robert is known for his climbing — he's scaled the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, the Golden Gate Bridge and Tapiei 101, the world's tallest building.
Why Robert chose the 46-story One Houston Center, the 13th tallest building in town, isn't clear, but he obviously planned the trip in advance, because police had been waiting for him all morning. What is clear is that HPD ain't gonna put up with no high-rise stunts: "He's been doing it all across the country," Sgt. K. Perkins told the Chronicle, "but you just can't come here and violate the law in Texas." Darn tootin'.
If you're thinking about climbing a downtown building, remember that doing so is criminal mischief and you may be arrested, even if you're French.
