By halftime at today’s Houston Texans game, the fans and Houstonist were feeling rather confident at our chances to improve the team's 1-9 season, especially after the recent comparison with a few of the worst seasons the Houston Oilers had back in those gloom days. A 24-to-3 lead over the St. Louis Rams, and their quarterback out for the remainder of the game — we have to win that one, right?
It comes down to 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Texans have a 27-17 lead, it looks impossible to lose. Wait, scratch that. The Rams benefit from a touchdown, recovery of an onside kick and a field goal, all within 30 seconds. The game goes into overtime and the Texans win the coin toss, but do nothing with the possession. Rams gain possession and make a 56-yard touchdown to win the game.
Houstonist was excited to see our hometown team playing so well in the first half. We wonder, though: What needs to change to make the Texans a winning team?
