Sky Deli - Hidden In This Building

Sometimes there is so much to eat in the West Loop area that our head explodes and our stomach churns emptily from over-contemplation. On those days we ditch the dishes we love from exotic lands and instead drop $4 for a quick cafeteria-style lunch at Sky Deli.

Hidden in the Executive Office Building (affectionately and giggly known to Houstonians as the Berwanger building) along U.S. 59 just east of the West Loop, Sky Deli is a contradiction in that it is on the first floor facing a parking lot.

Though the view isn’t grand, there is a television and plenty of tables and chairs to avoid feeling crowded. Compared to other office building cafes in this part of town, it is actually a nice place to grab lunch.

What you’ll get for $4 is equivalent to what you’d get at an above-average school cafeteria: a drink, chips or fries and a sandwich (fish fillet, grilled chicken or a hamburger, depending on the day).

What you won’t get for $4 is also equivalent to a school cafeteria: refills, health food or large portions. But what did you expect?

The deli also offers a predictable variety of American lunch fare and breakfast items. If you’re in a hurry, the same building has a men’s barbershop and a wine cellar (for when you must quickly store some wine?).
