Raise a glass for the Big Easy

120505_abita.jpgHoustonist is a little late on this news, but even so, we think it's worth telling: Now there's a way to help rebuild New Orleans while you're getting drunk. Abita Brewing Co., which made it through Hurricane Katrina unscathed, started shipping Fleur-de-lis Restoration Ale in October; $1 from the sale of every six pack goes to the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation.

Here's Abita's description of the brew:

Fleur-de-lis Restoration Ale is made with English Pale, Lager, Crystal and Cara Pils malted barley. We liberally hopped and dry hopped our Ale with American Cascade and Centennial hops and fermented it with California Ale yeast. The result is a brilliant gold ale with a rich body, mild bitterness and a snappy fresh citrus hop flavor and aroma.

We don't know where Fleur-de-lis is being sold in Houston, but we heard it's available at H-E-B. If you see it, let us know. You can also buy Abita restoration shirts and hats online.
