'I shot an arrow into the air / It fell on a dog'

120705_pitbull.jpgHoustonist has always heard of people doing mean things to animals, but the story of a pit bull that was shot with an arrow surprised us. Who shoots a dog with an arrow? Who even keeps a bow and arrow handy? People in Conroe, apparently.

Responding to a call, animal control officers found the dog on the ground and conscious in the 300 block of Bartle, said Conroe police Sgt. Bob Berry. A veterinarian removed the arrow.

Berry said the city had received complaints about the dog roaming the neighborhood.

Perhaps a restless deer hunter was looking for something to shoot — with an arrow? Or maybe someone got overexcited after reading the latest issue of Bow & Arrow Hunting magazine. (At least they didn't read Soldier of Fortune.)

Animal control officials are helping the dog recover and plan to put it up for adoption.
