Sometimes, Houstonist feels spoiled by today's ever-fancier movie theaters — do we truly need stadium seating, digital projectors and 12,000-watt sound systems to enjoy a movie? Well, yes, in most cases, we really think we do. Nevertheless, we're intrigued by the prospect of seeing a movie outdoors, so we're excited about two holiday movies in Hermann Park:
- Friday and Saturday, the movie of choice is 1983's A Christmas Story. Everybody knows what the movie's about, so we're not going to spend any time on the synposis — but remember to bring a blanket, or else you'll freeze your BB's off. (The screening's in English on Friday, in Spanish on Saturday.)
- Next weekend, Dec. 16 and 17, catch the 1954 musical classic White Christmas, in which Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen sing and dance their way through a passel of Irving Berlin standards. It's in VistaVision!
All screenings begin at 7 p.m. at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, 100 Concert Drive in Hermann Park. Admission is free.
