Mayor Bill White announced today that hurricane evacuees still waiting for housing in Houston should consider looking elsewhere because, well, we're running out of places to put them.
Some 100,000 evacuees have been placed in nearly 30,000 units — mostly rental housing and apartments — leaving the city about 3,500 units left, according to the Houston/Harris County Joint Hurricane Housing Task Force. The 11,000 evacuees still holed up in hotels will not be able to get housing vouchers in Houston after Wednesday.
Something tells us that many evacuees won't be going back to New Orleans, soul or no soul.
