Galveston athletic director reassigned after UIL report

121905_jaco.jpgIf there's one thing you learn by living in Texas, it's that high school football is sacred. So when the Galveston ISD athletic director made a report that resulted in Ball High's football team being disqualified from the state playoffs, people got pissed. First there was the death threat against AD Brent Jaco, and now Jaco's been removed from his job.

The controversy began in early November when Jaco reported a junior safety on the Ball High team was ineligible to play because he had moved back into the Galveston school district and wasn't living with a parent or guardian. The UIL disqualified the team and locals — even people who don't live on the island — went after Jaco. So Galveston ISD did the only responsible thing:

Brent Jaco confirmed Saturday that he was removed from the athletic director's job on Friday.

He said he was barred by Galveston school district Superintendent Lynn Hale from talking to reporters about the situation, including what his new duties with the district are.

Hale could not be reached for comment Saturday.

Wow — add Jon Voight, some Oscar-worthy performances and a lot of angst and you'd almost have yourself a movie.
