The Houston Chronicle and others are exploring the history of Houston teams tanking a losing season in order to get a better draft pick for the following year. Did it happen twenty years ago with the Rockets? Is it happening now with the Texans?
While watching the Texans last Saturday, it seems very plausible that losing the game wasn’t an accident. Like most of the last half dozen games, we could have, and should have won. At the last game, there seemed to be something else on Texan fans’ minds – Reggie Bush. Oh, and Santa, but that’s a different story.
Is it wrong to hope your team loses, just to have more hopeful wins in upcoming seasons? That’s a tough question for Texan fans. When Carr and company were doing well Saturday, we heard a lot of nervous chatter around us. When the team started tanking in the third quarter, chants of “Bush! Bush!” began. We’re pretty sure that it wasn’t a political rally at Reliant Stadium.
A lot is riding on the Texans season closer this weekend with San Francisco – that mainly being a number one draft pick. If the Texans lose, you’ll have to decide for yourself if it was deliberate or not. Maybe it’s like the old Jewish proverb, “From the thorn bush comes forth the rose Bush.”
