Searching for a motive in football player's murder

010406_davis.jpgThough a suspect is already in custody, police are still puzzling over the murder of Kasey Davis, a Texas Christian football player who was shot to death at a Conroe apartment complex early Tuesday morning. Davis had just parked his Suburban at the Forest Creek Apartments on Montgomery Park about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when a man got out of a nearby car and shot Davis through his driver's-side window, then returned to his car and drove away. Some of Davis's friends saw the shooting and helped police track down 40-year-old Jeffrey Clay Lasiter, who they arrested about a mile from the crime scene. Lasiter had a rifle in his front seat.

Davis and Lasiter didn't know each other, so police are looking at several possible motives for the shooting, including road rage. Davis, 20, was in town to visit his family and for the Houston Bowl, where TCU beat Iowa State 27-24.
