The offensive search is on

Now that Dom Capers is out, the interviews for the new Texans coach starts today. Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will be the first to be interviewed. The list of interviewees includes several others with offensive specialties, including the Broncos’ Gary Kubiak, the Chiefs’ Al Saunders, and the Chargers’ Cam Cameron (whom Houstonist likes for his name -- it’d be fun to call our coach “Cam Cam”).

060104-mcnair.gifThe only defensive coordinator that Bob McNair (pictured left) and friends are talking to is Jerry Gray, from the Buffalo Bills. We’re glad that the franchise is mostly focusing on coaches with heavy offense experience – more than anything, the Texans need a superb offense line so David Carr will be able to complete a pass before he’s sacked and (hopefully) Reggie Bush will be able to take the football down the field.

Within a week, we should learn more about the finalists for the coaching job. In the meantime, one of the Texans’ running backs was arrested today – lucky for him that the coach search will keep his story out of the headlines.
