It seems to us that Houston has had more than its share of car chases lately — hardly a week has gone by recently when there hasn't been one or two minor chases, and once in a while we get something exciting like Wednesday afternoon's high-speed romp. With all the attention focused on that chase, you might have overlooked an incident early Thursday morning that sent police officers looking for drugs on I-10.
It started when HPD officers tried to pull a man over, claiming they'd seen him involved in a drug deal. The suspect fled and police say he ended up tossing the drugs out his car window on I-10. The man eventually pulled over and was arrested, but police had to shut the freeway down while they searched for (and, amazingly enough, recovered) what they believe may be crack rocks.
There was also another car chase overnight Thursday, in which a man ran when police tried to give him a speeding ticket and ended up crashing into a utility pole near South Main and Greenbriar — but let's face it, that one just wasn't as exciting because it lacked the crack-on-the-freeway angle. If this keeps up, we might have to create a "car chase" posting category, but for now we're going to go listen to This American Life's account of the world's slowest car chase again.
