What does 'BBB' stand for, anyway?

012406_secretary.jpgFor some reason, stories about people who accidentally call phone-sex lines are always funny. So Houstonist was delighted to find another one: This time, a Conroe woman got an earful when she thought she was calling the Better Business Bureau.

[Joanne] Lassater got the number from a phone book published by Conroe's Consolidated Communications. The BBB said because of a mix-up, their new number was not published in the 2005 phone book.

"That toll free number, unbeknownst to us, got sold by our long distance carrier to another carrier who made it a phone sex line," said Carol Ritter with the Better Business Bureau.

The correct number, 877.468.9222, will be in a new phone book set to come out next month. In the meantime, Houstonist can only imagine how many people will wonder when the BBB got such sexy operators — we guess that's the danger in having a listing next to "BBW."
