Thieves hit Hard Rock Cafe

012706_eltonshoes.jpgWe've heard plenty about Houston's escalating crime rate. First, the thugs targeted Oscar and the Cookie Monster, then expensive watches, and now — rock memorabilia? Yep, it's true: Early Thursday, burglars hit the Hard Rock Cafe downtown.

The story comes from KTRK, which had very few details — in fact, the station didn't know what was stolen, though it did say at least three items of rock memorabilia are missing. The Houston Hard Rock's collection includes one of Elvis's jackets, one of Elton John's outfits and guitars that belonged to Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead.

More on this story as it develops, but for now, Houstonist wonders how in the world anyone could make off with HRC memorabilia in the middle of downtown Houston without someone noticing. We remember most of the stuff in the restaurant being in enormous gold frames, which we think would attract at least a little attention. We hope the thieves at least made off with something practical, like a pair of Elton's platforms.
