Police investigating driver's murder

020106_truck.jpgA bizarre story is unfolding this morning in southwest Houston: Police responding to what seemed to be a traffic accident discovered the driver of a wrecked truck had actually been shot to death. According to KHOU, witnesses heard a crash just before 6 a.m. in the 9600 block of Pagewood and called 911; when police arrived, they found a truck crashed into a tree. Inside, the driver, a man, had died of a gunshot wound to the head and the female passenger was alive, but covered in blood.

Police said the truck was parked on the street in front of the passenger's house with the driver's side window partially rolled down. According to the passenger, a black man approached the car and shot the driver in the head; it's not clear how the truck ended up running into the tree. Police don't know why the shooting occurred and are still looking for the suspect, who fled the scene.
