As the Seattle Seahawks prepare for Sunday’s Super Bowl, their lawyers will be preparing for a court fight. Texas A&M’s lawsuit against the Seahawks for their use of the Aggie’s copyrighted “12th man” slogan was moved yesterday to a federal court in Houston.
Quick history lesson: 12th man refers to the fans of each team. Texas A&M began using it in 1922, Seattle in 1984. The banners that are used at the game are very different: in colors, font, and words used.
We agree with Seattlest: This whole fight is stupid – on both sides. It’s like a golf course claiming that their 19th Hole Bar should be the only 19th Hole Bar. Who cares? Every team needs fans and every golfer needs a drink after shooting 20 over par – does it matter what you call it? OK, bad analogy.
We wish our friends at Seattlest “good luck” on Sunday’s game. Just remember, our Aggie friends are great people, just a little sensitive when it comes to their traditions.
