From the "Wow, running into your own building really sucks" file comes the story of a man who drove his truck through the front wall of the Texas Hamburger Palace restaurant off Harwin yesterday. Steve Haase, who owns the building where the Hamburger Palace is located, was visiting on business when he drove through the restaurant's glass wall, sending at least three diners to the hospital and injuring several others.
"I was just sitting down when I caught something out of the corner of my eye. I just dove under the next table," said customer Gary Friedman, "I think there was a priest in there and he must have been looking after us." Friedman received a scraped knee.
Haase, of course, didn't mean to drive into the restaurant during the lunch hour (or any other time, for that matter). As he told KTRK: "I put [the truck] in park and — you know." Of the eight people injured by flying glass, HPD said none were seriously hurt. The manager of the Hamburger Palace said the restaurant will be open for business today.
