Houstonist's review of local news this morning turned up the usual stuff: online predators, crime, schools, crime, crime, government, weather, crime. Then we ran across the most startling story of the day: A La Marque man has grown a four-headed cabbage.
Leroy Crear, 76, keeps a vegetable garden at his sister's house, and it was there that the mutant cabbage sprouted (for those of you who aren't vegetable-inclined, cabbages usually grow with just one head — so, in essence, Crear is getting four cabbages for the price of one in this case). He said he's not sure how he came to be blessed with the mutant cabbage:
“All I did was till the soil and just water it every now and then,” he said. “I did put on some bug spray. That’s it. This is some real good dirt down there.”
Despite its unusual growth, Crear's cabbage probably won't beat the world record for heaviest cabbage (124 pounds). Still, Crear is having fun with it in the meantime. Speaking to a reporter, he jokingly drew a parallel between his cabbage and the Garden of Eden's infamous forbidden fruit, which makes us wonder if it would really be wise to eat slaw made from the four-headed monster — we hear God doesn't take these things lightly.
