Live Music Calendar

Tuesday
Denver’s The Fray is making inroads on radio with “Over My Head (Cable Car),” now No. 13 on the adult rock/pop charts, but you wouldn’t know it by listening to Houston radio (Mix 96.5 has that format but they’re so conservative musically that they probably won’t play it for another month, if ever). Similar to Goo Goo Dolls, but fresher. Cary Brothers (actually a solo guy, no siblings with him) and Matt Kearney open.

Wednesday
Named after a fake phone number used on the '70s variety show Hee-Haw, BR549 has been playing traditional country music, like your grandpa listened to, for over 12 years now. If you yearn for the days when Nashville knew what country music is supposed to sound like, you’ll enjoy this show. They’ll be playing many cuts from their new album Dog Days.
8 p.m. at the Engine Room | tickets and info

Thursday
One Amazon.com reviewer compared Jucifer to old Black Sabbath and Public Enemy. Huh? We don’t hear it, but if you like heavy guitars with a smooth female vocal, then you should check them out. If you don’t like it, you can always head back downstairs and shoot some darts. Houston’s Hell City Kings open.
8 p.m. at Rudyard’s | info

Friday
It’s hard to believe that the electronic/industrial band My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult has been around for almost 20 years. If you were a fan of theirs in the late eighties, you may be surprised to hear their latest sound – disco. Still, they are known for their wild and strange shows. Hmm, maybe a good late Valentine’s date? You decide.
8 p.m. at Numbers | tickets and info

Saturday
Monte Montgomery isn’t known for a wild stage presence, for sure, but if you want to hear what Guitar One magazine calls one of the Top 10 Best Undiscovered Guitarists in America, then you should definitely go to the Duck tonight. Monte not only focuses on mastering the guitar, but also on writing melodic pop/rock songs like “Tug of War.”
7:30 and 10 p.m. at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck | info
