Police finally catch fake cop

022106_spradley.JPGPolice have finally arrested the man they accuse of impersonating a cop — and they did it at the same bail bond agency he used to post bond Friday. Officers have been looking for Weylin Spradley for several weeks because they were concerned over his tendency to wear a police-style uniform and his car, a white Chevy Impala emblazoned with official-looking graphics for a fake security company. "I believe that [police] are just going after me with full force without even trying to talk to me or find out what's really going on," Spradley told KTRK. "This is getting really old, being on the news every day, making me look like I'm a really bad guy when I'm not."

Sheriff's officials are still trying to figure out how Spradley got free Friday when he should have been arrested on the spot for violating parole from an earlier conviction (also for impersonating a public servant). Harris County Sgt. Brian Carr said either the bond denial for the parole violation wasn't in the system when Spradley posted bond, or the clerk who processed the bond didn't do a check for outstanding warrants. This time around, Spradley was wanted not only for impersonating a public servant but also for writing bad checks totaling $3,500, which he used to pay for his car's graphics job.

There's no word yet on Spradley's court date.
