We're sorry we missed the implosion of the Page Parkes building on Kirby yesterday morning — but thanks to the internet, we can see it anyway. It wasn't a milestone in the world of implosions, but it's fun to watch just the same. (The Chronicle also has a frame-by-frame photo gallery of the implosion.)
The building was torn down to make way for 2727 Kirby, a 30-story condo tower. Units start at about $545,000 (for a 1,263-square-foot condo) and go up to $8 million (for the 10,700-square-foot penthouse). The site is across Kirby from a 700-unit apartment and retail complex, construction on which will start this year.
(In case you wondered, it took about 50 pounds of dynamite to bring down the Parkes building, compared with 90 pounds for the Montrose bridge over the Southwest Freeway.)
