Holocaust Museum marks 10th anniversary

060306-train.jpgThe Holocaust Museum Houston marked its 10th anniversary yesterday with ceremonies that included the unveiling of a 1942 German railcar that was most likely used to transport Jews to concentration camps.

"It is a living reminder of a terrible journey that I do not remember but feel in my bones," said [holocaust survivor Chaja] Verveer, who was only three years old at the time. "Let it be a symbol that we today cannot afford to be bystanders watching idly as other trains of genocide pass by."

Speakers at the rededication ceremonies included Mayor Bill White and Fred Zeiman, chairman of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. The rail car will be on exhibition through Sept. 17.
