A section of the Katy Freeway re-opened earlier this morning after two cars and three 18-wheelers crashed just inside the West Loop. Police say the driver of a car lost control on the freeway and ran into a guardrail at about 2 a.m., and the driver and passenger abandoned the car in the center lane. Two 18-wheelers slowed down to avoid hitting the car, but a third truck didn't slow down and ended up losing control, pinning another car against a concrete barricade and smashing into the other two trucks.
In all, two people were taken to the hospital with back injuries. One truck driver told police he saw two women walking away from the abandoned car; they could be charged with failure to stop and give information — and, we hope, with stupidity for abandoning their car in the middle of a busy freeway. Stupidity isn't a crime? Too bad.
