Chron's Cook launches food blog

031406_forkspoon.jpgHoustonist loves eating out, partly because new and interesting restaurants are constantly opening (and closing) in Houston, but mostly because the only thing we can cook with any degree of success is toast. And because we have this thing for eating out, we dig Chronicle restaurant reviewer Alison Cook, who likes what we like, goes places we can't afford and isn't afraid to let us know if a restaurant just isn't that good.

Naturally, we were excited to hear about Cook's Tour, Cook's new blog at chron.com (thanks to blogHOUSTON for noticing it). Cook says the blog will go wherever her stomach takes her:

There will be bulletins from the field, including first takes on new restaurants that haven't been open long enough to be fairly reviewed. Or oddball places that have a great specialty. Suburban excursions. Sad closings. Anticipated openings. The unusual food event or two. Trends annoying and welcome. Chefs on the upswing -- or downswing.

Cook has been blogging for less than a week, and most of her posts so far have dealt with a trip to New Orleans, the state of the city and its food. It's been fun so far — especially the part about the gravy faucet, which we think should come standard in every kitchen — but we're anxious for Cook to get back and start letting us know what's happening here.
