Police chase leads to woman's house

031506_policelights.jpgHoustonist has just added something to our list of things we hope never happen to us: We hope a police chase never ends in our yard. That's what happened to Esther Flores, a northeast Houston woman, yesterday.

Flores was talking on the phone to a friend who had been watching police chase a black Honda on TV. The friend saw three men get out of the car and start running through a neighborhood, and then he recognized Flores's back yard. His advice to her: "Lock the doors!" Just as Flores was figuring out what was going on, the empty Honda crashed into her sister's parked car outside her house.

The chase had begun at about 3:40 p.m. off Beltway 8 and Antoine when a witness saw three men kick in the door of a house and begin unloading property into the Honda. The suspects led officers on a 30-minute high-speed chase that ended when the Honda blew a tire near Flores' house. One suspect was caught shortly after leaving the car; the other two hid in a nearby apartment and were caught later.
