H-E-B recalls baby food because of unexpected ingredient

031606_babyfood.jpgH-E-B said yesterday it's recalling its entire baby food line after customers in Houston and Corpus Christi reported they found pieces of glass in jars of peas, carrots and applesauce. The food, which was removed from shelves statewide, will be shipped back to the quality-assurance lab for testing.

"Though these reports have been isolated to just a few products in the H-E-B baby food line, as a company, we are committed to absolute and complete food safety," said Winell Herron, H-E-B group vice president of public affairs. "As a result of that commitment, coupled with the fact that we are dealing with a children's product, we have made the decision to pull all of our H-E-B baby food from our shelves."

Customers can return H-E-B and Mom's Organic Choice to any H-E-B store for a refund. Houstonist knows this isn't a funny story, but we're blessed with the ability to find humor in even the most inappropriate situations — and this time, we have just three words (or is it two?): Bag o' Glass.

I guess the whole process of straining peas doesn't involve straining out glass.
