Woman abducted, forced into trunk at Montrose-area club

031606_abduction.jpgIn one of the more bizarre abduction stories of the year so far, a woman was forced into the trunk of her car at knifepoint after leaving The Proletariat early this morning, and 45 minutes later her abductor apparently gave up and left her a few blocks away. It happened around 1 a.m. when an unknown man pulled a butcher knife on a 23-year-old woman leaving the Montrose-area club. He forced her into the trunk of her car, then got in the car and started driving around.

Fortunately for the woman — or not, maybe — she had her cell phone with her, so she called 911. For 45 minutes, HPD and the cell phone company tried to triangulate her signal and see if she could identify any sounds from outside the car that would tip her off to where she was. After a while, the abductor seems to have given up and abandoned the car at West Main and Roseland, about four blocks from The Proletariat. The woman was able to open the trunk from the inside and get out (it's not clear whether the police had figured out where she was); she wasn't unjured. Police couldn't find the man, but they did fine blood on the car.

It's not clear why the woman was abducted, but the story does make us want to study up on some trunk rescue tips.
