Texas gas prices up for second straight week

031706_gaspump.jpgGas prices in Texas climbed for the second week in a row, to a statewide average of $2.34 a gallon for regular self-serve. It's a 7-cent increase from last week, according to AAA Texas, but still a nickel below the national average of $2.39.

AAA reports the most expensive gas in Texas, on average, is in Dallas — naturally — while the cheapest is in San Antonio. According to TexasGasPrices.com, the cheapest gas reported in Texas is $2.28 at the Flying J on Highway 281 in Edinburg; the highest is $2.75 at the Chevron at Rio Grande Village in Big Bend National Park. The cheapest in Houston is $2.28 at the Phillips 66 at 9220 Clearwood; the most expensive is $2.69 at the Shell at the Southwest Freeway and Chimney Rock.

Rising prices are due to price speculation and the switch to summer-grade gas, an AAA spokeswoman said.
