After a spring-like winter, Houstonist was looking forward to a couple more months of sun and mild temperatures when spring officially hit Monday. And then, bam — it got freakin' cold. Yesterday's low was 44, a full 10 degrees above the record low of 34, set in 1968. But the high yesterday, 54, was 21 degrees below the average high for March 23. And that brisk north wind didn't really help things, either.
Things will get chilly again tonight, with a forecast low of 36 — that could tie the record low of 36, set in 1952. Saturday and Sunday should be very nice, with highs around 70 and lots of sun; after this weekend, it looks like things will get back to normal for spring, with highs in the 70s. (It's always funny to see how Houstonians handle unexpected weather — Thursday morning, when it was downright cold, we can't count the number of people we saw walking around in shorts and T-shirts.)
Across the state, things will stay on the cool side today, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s in the Panhandle to the upper 60s in West Texas.

I hope that Matty B. brings a portable bonfire to Stag's Head tonight.
