Jeff Bagwell came out and said Saturday what we've all figured for a while: He may never play baseball again. Bagwell started several spring training games with the Astros, but left two of them after two innings complaining of shoulder pain; so far, he's hit .219 with two RBI. Bags' shoulder has been a problem since 2001, but it didn't really take him out until last year, when he missed 115 games after surgery. Now, he said he'll probably have to have shoulder replacement after he leaves the game.
"I'm going to be honest with myself," Bagwell said. "I'm going to be honest with the Astros. I'm out here in the condition where I can only play once every few days, and that's not what I'm out here to do."
The Astros filed an insurance claim in January to get around $15.6 million of the $17 million they've guaranteed Bagwell in the final year of his contreat. The team will be able to collect the money if Bagwell stays on the injured list all season. Lance Berkman will replace Bagwell at first.
