Astros in Action

040406_aiaf.jpgWith all the hoopla around the Astros' opening week, it's easy to forget that more things are going on at Minute Maid Park than baseball — you know, like the Astros' Second Annual Leadoff Luncheon, which is set for Friday. (Yeah, we know, that's baseball-related, too, but what do you expect?)

The luncheon, which benefits the Astros in Action Foundation and autism awareness, begins at 11:30 a.m. in the ballpark's Union Station lobby, 501 Crawford. Why attend? Other than supporting the cause, you'll get the chance to check out your favroite 'Stros in person, plus special guest James Denton of Desperate Housewives fame (Houstonist is pretending he isn't a huge Red Sox fan while he's in town). If you're extra lucky (or have extra-deep pockets), check out the VIP reception, where you can mingle with the players and bid in the silent auction.

The cost for all this fun? Yeah, that's the downer: $200 per ticket, and they're almost gone. For information, call 713.781.0053. If you don't make it, don't worry — Houstonist will be there and we'll give you the story. In the meantime, why not find out how you can get involved with the Astros in Action Foundation? There are always chances to donate and volunteer.
