Comic stripped, conservatives pissed

Last week, the Houston Chronicle replaced the conservative leaning comic strip Mallard Fillmore with Prickly City, a newer conservative strip created by Scott Strantis. Over the weekend, they realized that they hit a nerve with Fillmore devotees when the newspaper decided to pluck the duck.

According to their website, Prickly City is "about the friendship between Winslow, a coyote pup, and Carmen, a straight and narrow kind of kid." So we're replacing a political charged duck for a coyote pup? Well, it still beats the current politicians in D.C.

For fans of Mallard Fillmore, you can still find the daily cartoon on Houston Chronicle's website. As for Houstonist, we just wish they would bring back our favorite political cartoon, Bloom County. Bill the Cat for President!

people actually read and enjoy mallard fillmore? i was stuck for a year working at a newspaper that carried fillmore every day. i read that shit for 13 months straight without laughing once. when it appeared on the same day as cal thomas's or bob novak's column, i wanted my head to explode.

Aren't Mallard Fillmore and Family Circus America's favorite cartoons? (cough)
