The buzz continues on whether or not Roger Clemens will rejoin the Astros for another (partial) season. Seeing the Rocket as a guest at the Texas Ranger’s opening day made us all a little nauseous, but he’s also still in talks with the Red Sox and Yankees, also.
As we noted before, the trouble began late last year when the Astros passed on offering Clemens salary arbitration. In a recent interview, Clemens noted, “If I was offered arbitration, we probably wouldn't be talking about this right now.” Ouch!
Houstonist knows it’s early in the season, but we hope that the Astros 6-3 record will help give the Rocket continued faith in his hometown team. Granted, the Red Sox have the same record so far, too. With or without Clemens, we still have high hopes for another championship year, especially after watching last night’s Game 2 against San Francisco – the Astros won 8-0, with the help from Roy Oswalt’s pitching and two homeruns from Lance Berkman.
The Astros play the Diamondbacks in Arizona tonight at 8:40 p.m.
