Considering how quickly this morning's storm moved through the area, it sure screwed a lot of things up. Nearly 77,000 customers were without power at 7:30 a.m., the morning commute was complicated by blinding rain and blowing debris, flights were delayed and the front section of Houstonist's newspaper was soaked. (OK, so that wasn't such a big thing, but it is hard to read a soggy newspaper.)
According to KHOU, damage included windows blown out of a northwest Harris County office building, major roof damage at Meyer Elementary in the Lamar Consolidated ISD, malfunctioning railroad crossing arms on Richmond, Westheimer and San Felipe and downed power lines on Blalock. HISD reported one school bus accident, a boiler room fire and power outages at eight schools.
This morning's storms were on the leading edge of a front that's expected to make this weekend's weather fantastic. Today's forecast calls for a high around 80 with a chance of more thunderstorms through the afternoon.
