We’ve come across yet another dog vs. man story in the Chronicle. But this time, it was the man who attacked the dog.
Willy Warren, a 58-year-old regular walker in Northwest Houston, claims that his neighbor’s 14-month-old American Staffordshire terrier is a nuisance who charged him, barking and growling. And that, according to Willy, is why he pulled a gun from his fanny pack and shot the dog in the face.
The terrier, Lucy, was in the front yard after her owner’s lawn crew left the gate to the back yard open. Her owners heard the shot and came to the front yard, where they claim Willy then pointed his gun at them. However, the official police report has no mention of that ever happening.
To make matters worse for Lucy’s family, an HPD officer told them on Thursday, “Calm down, you can always get another dog.”
Lucy was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic after the incident. She was treated and released, and is resting comfortably on pain medication. No charges have been filed against Willy at this time because he has a concealed weapon permit and felt threatened by the dog.
