There are a lot of problems with our public transportation here in Houston, some of which, such as confusing routes and lack of proper respect for Rosa Parks--only the most influential busrider ever--are less worrisome than others. Like, for example, the fact that they run over not just pedestrians, but their own workers, as this disturbing story from the Houston Press reports, and then don't do much about it.
Finally, however, Houstonist is pleased to bring you something Metro might do right for our city and for the environment. Today's Chronicle reports that Metro's planning to fast-track a proposal to place bike racks on all city busses in response to customer demand and rising gas prices. Take the bus and take your bike: better for you and the air.
And who knows, if enough people ride bikes more, maybe we'll lose our spot on the fattest cities list. Houstonist will drink (or perhaps eat some veggies) to that!
