In our avid quest for the most interesting stuff going on in this muggy, polluted (but you know you love it anyway!) neck of the woods, Houstonist has found a group with a mission.
The Freeway Bloggers are a nationwide grassroots group protesting the current political climate, and every Tuesday night, the Houston chapter of the Texas Freeway Bloggers meets on the Dunlavy bridge over U.S. 59 to protest the current administration and the war in Iraq.
If that's your thing, check their site out. Whether you join in or simply give 'em a beep on your way home from work as you pass that ever-clogged section of the highway, you'll be doing a little bit for the peaceful use of all of our first amendment rights.
And that's a good thing, no matter what your politics may be.
What: Houston Freeway Blogger's peaceful demonstration against the current political situation(s)
Where: Dunlavy St. over U.S. 59 (that's one of the big white bridges with the weird red balls on them)
When: Every Tuesday, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

YAY! Thank you, Alexandra. :)

You know, I'm all about the first amendment right to free expression and peaceful assembly. However, could you try to NOT protest during my commute?!
After a hard day at the office, I'm not looking forward to some angry Bush haters clogging up my drive from downtown! Of anything, we all spent 15 mins longer in traffic going 5 miles an hour getting only 6 miles to the gallon because everyone was crawling under the Dunlavy bridge to see you make a political statement. Why can't they do something useful, like change someone's mind about the political situation through rational discourse or vote for a change?
This is a nuisance and a public safety hazard. Next time, I'm calling the cops.
to jayci (who isn't kind enough to leave an email address):
The reason the Dunlavy Bridge was picked is because there is a bottle neck there already. If you have a problem with the traffic backing up, take it up with highway commission.
Feel free to call the cops. They are already there to make sure the event is peaceful.
Ah the irony of folks opposing illegal war, stolen elections, all around corruption being labeled as mere "bush haters". The many people I know who oppose the Bush agenda just don't "hate bush". They have valid, indepth reasons. And if there were rational discourse or legal elections in this country, then we the people would not have to be taking it to the streets.
Angry? We were all in a pretty good mood, as far as I could tell. Even when the counterprotesters showed up, they were thanked for being there.

Your efforts in pointing this out to your fellow Texans is appreciated by this Californian!
