Suburban life seems kind of idyllic sometimes, doesn't it? The new houses, the good schools, the big, well-manicured lawns, the flying nails — yeah, that's right, flying nails. It's been a problem in at least one neighborhood in Dickinson, where a family has found nails on two occasions from a construction site about 200 feet away.
The first time it happened, homeowner Deanna Wilson was relaxing in her back yard when a nail flew in and hit her on the leg. "I felt a ping on my leg," Wilson said. "I looked down, and this nail hit me from the construction site across the way. ... I was like, 'I need to get my kids inside.'" And later, Deanna's husband, Charles, was cutting the grass in the yard and ran across another nail. Deanna called Lennar Homes, the builder, to ask about the nails: The first time, she said the company listened, but the second time, they told her to just hang tight because they'd only be at the construction site for another couple of weeks.
Naturally, that didn't go over well with the Wilsons, who aren't letting their kids out in the yard because they're afraid it will rain nails again. KTRK tried to contact Lennar, but was unable to; meanwhile, Chad Wilson said he just wants to make people aware problems like this exist. "We should be able to enjoy our back yard without having to worry about jeopardizing our children's lives," he said.
This news really helped Houstonist deal with our Inner Loop lives: Yeah, we may have people walking down the street mainlining heroin and breaking into cars, but at least nails don't drop out of the sky!
