Local music awards – your vote counts

The Grammy nominees are chosen by elitist music industry snobs, while the American Music Awards are basically a popularity contest. Where do the Houston Press Music Awards fall? Well, that’s up to you.

It’s that time of year again to place your vote for your favorite local musician(s). Please do us all a favor – don’t just vote for the only artist you know that fits that category, make sure they are really good. Houstonist won’t name names, but in recent years, there have been some local artists on the nomination list that have been past their prime for decades; that is, if they've ever reached their prime.

The Press is throwing a nomination party on the final day of nominations, May 20th, at Warehouse Live. Ice Cube is headlining that show (no, you can’t vote for him, he’s not from Houston), but other local acts will be performing, too.

Need help in your nomination process? Check out some of the local bands mentioned on past Live Music Calendars or other local music blogs like Houston Calling. Online nomination form can be found here.
