Students injured in Metro bus crash

051706_buscrash.jpgHave we mentioned before that riding on a Metro bus can be a little dangerous? Latest example: Several students were injured yesterday morning when a car ran a stop sign and plowed into their bus. It happened near West Rittenhouse and De Priest in north Houston at about 7:40 a.m.:

"The gentlemen that was driving the Taurus -- he ran a stop sign. He was going at a pretty good rate of speed. There was no way the METRO bus could avoid it," witness John Jackson said.

Seven people were removed from the bus on stretchers and then transported to area hospitals. Six of the injured were students on their way to school. Their injuries were described as minor.

Jackson told KPRC the driver of the Ford Taurus had to be cut out of the car and was unconscious when the rescue team removed him from the scene; he is listed in serious condition at Ben Taub. The bus received minor damage.
