Remember when we told you about those Conroe brothers battling each other for a seat on city council? Well, the Martin family reunion just got a bit weirder.
Jay Ross Martin, 57, and Guy Martin, 54, will face off in a runoff election after neither brother received a majority of votes in Saturday's general election. Houstonist doesn't think this has ever happened in a Texas election before. Jay Ross, the incumbent, garnered 42.7 percent of the vote, while is brother received 28.6 percent. In a Courier article, Jay Ross accused his brother of smear campaigning.
"I felt I have done a great job for the city," said a grim-faced Councilman Martin. "You always have to be prepared for a runoff, but I've endured a number of misstatements and mistruths. I've taken the high road (during the campaign), but it's been rough running against accusations, knowing that these things were absolutely not true.
Guy retaliated:
"That's blatantly false on his behalf," Guy Martin said. "I talked only about the downtown revitalization and tax issues. There was nothing personal in my comments and he cannot say that."
Next thing you know, these two will be fighting over who got the bigger bedroom.
