Friday Night Fun

comedy & tragedy.jpgSo, you can't actually afford to go to the theater most Friday nights: with ticket prices like this, who can blame you? This Friday night, why not make your own theatrical fun instead?

The Houston Improvaoke! group meets every Friday night at Ziggy's Healthy Grill in the Rice Village Alapherd area. Improvaoke is billed as "karaoke for comedians", and is an audience-controlled mix of games and short scenes performed with no rehearsal, just like the stuff you see on Who's Line is it Anyway. But fortunately, without Drew Carey.
If you really want to impress your date, why not make it dinner and the theater? Ziggy's menu is yummy and affordable (try the turkey burgers!) and they provide a cash bar. Sadly, Houstonist can't nurse our crush on Ryan Stiles at Improvaoke, but the games are so much fun, you might just catch us there anyway.

What: Houston Improvaoke!: audience-controlled improvisational comedy
When: Friday nights. Seating opens at 6 pm, the show begins at 7.
Where: Ziggy's Healthy Grill (2202 W. Alabama @ Greenbriar)
Tickets are $5 per person for both parts of the show and all ages are welcome.

Hate to be a stickler, but Ziggy's is in the Montrose. I believe you don't get into the "Rice Area" until you cross 59.

Point taken, Groovehouse, except it's not really in Montrose, either. And it's not in the Village, and it's not in River Oaks. I've taken the liberty of creating a name: Alapherd (Alabama + Shepherd). I'm the editor, so I can do things like that. I sure hope I get some royalty checks when this thing becomes the next Midtown.

my bad, y'all--what the heck do the people who work there call it?
