Mayor Bill White talked online about the city's Wi-Fi initiative yesterday afternoon in a chat hosted by the High-Tech Local Celebrity Michael Garfield. The official transcript hasn't been posted on Garfield's blog yet, but most of the questions seem to have been about the business end of the new system.
While most of the chat answers could have been found on Google, White handled a few curves. For example, houstonmacbro brought up the problem of tech-savvy, nature-loving perverts:
"How does the City plan to address security issues such as content filtering? Will I have to worry about what other people might be viewing while I’m at the park with my children?"
The chat's servers were not able to handle all the visitors. The mayor used the extra time to demonstrate that he played more Typing Tutor than Garfield:
"The original plan was for Mayor White to dictate his answers to me as I typed them. That lasted about 30 seconds as he pushed my hands out of the way and did it himself. The man bangs out letters faster than I can."
Quick fingers and Cybill Shepherd? He's a mayor of many talents.
