Train hasn’t evolved too much since their debut “Meet Virginia” last decade, but they keep rolling down the tracks (sorry). Houstonist admits, even though we’re sick of it, “Drops of Jupiter” was a good song.

Warren Defever started His Name Is Alive 20 years ago in Michigan. They’ve outlasted many of their 4 A.D. record label brethren (Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance). Their style has progressed over the years, too – not quite as moody.

Genuine “blue-eyed soul” artists (read: white guys that sing R&B) are harder to find these days, but James Hunter is the real thing. His voice is compared to Sam Cooke’s and his style is compared to early Van Morrison. Pretty darn good combo.

Saturday
Houstonist caught Snow Patrol and Augustana at SXSW this year, and we were impressed. Snow Patrol is celebrating the release of their new album Eyes Open and Augustana is still touring on 2005’s All the Stars and Boulevards, with the hit song “Boston.”
