Good news if you're heading out of town this weekend: Gas prices in Texas dropped again this week, ending a an average of $2.79 a gallon for regular unleaded, down 6 cents from last week. Texas remains below the national average price of $2.86, which is also down 6 cents from last week, according to AAA Texas.

Based on reports from HoustonGasPrices.com, the cheapest gallon in town now is $2.69 at the Valero station at 11211 Almeda-Genoa (off the Gulf Freeway and Fuqua) and the Murphy USA station at 10001 Woodlands Parkway. The most expensive gas in town, as usual, is $3.18 at the Shell station at the Southwest Freeway and Chimney Rock. Seriously, does anyone buy gas there? Can anyone afford to?

Statewide, the most expensive average gas price this week was $2.91 in Galveston-Texas City, and the cheapest was $2.56 in Corpus Christi.
