Another rabid bat found in Humble

053006_bats.jpgA Humble homeowner found a rabid bat under his refrigerator, near the neighborhood where Zachary Jones, the teenager who died of rabies, was bitten by a bat in his sleep. The bat was found in the 14000 block of Horizon Falls in the Fall Creek subdivision.

"I walked by and noticed something that looked like a mouse under a refrigerator. After further inspection, noticed it had some wings on it and wasn't a mouse," homeowner Jeffery Stubbs said.

A 2-year-old boy who lives in the home is now undergoing rabies shots as a precaution.

"He's going to go through a series of five shots at Texas Children's — just precautionary because he's the only one who cannot tell us if he was infected by the bat or not or had any interaction with it," Stubbs said.

Stubbs put the bat on ice until county officials picked it up for testing. Though Jones's case drew a lot of attention and another rabid bat was found in the Humble area last week, officials said they're not worried — 13 bats have tested positive for rabies in Harris County so far this year, about the usual number.
