So if you've ever wondered what would happen if a hot dog touched a live power line — yeah, you know you have — do we have a deal for you: a demonstration from CenterPoint Energy showing exactly that. It was part of a safety demonstration at the George R. Brown Convention Center, and CenterPoint's Alicia Dixon said the hot dog was meant to simulate a human finger.
"The hot dog simulates a human finger, what would happen to your hand if it came in contact with a power line," Centerpoint Energy spokesperson Alicia Dixon said." "It's the same consistency as your hand."
The hot dog, needless to say, ended up quite well-done. And there were a lot of sparks (definitely check out KPRC's video). The demonstration is meant to help reduce the number of people who die from contact with energized power lines — 600 people were killed that way last year, including a retired HPD sergeant who pulled a live power line from under her car tires.
Houstonist is still trying to wrap our head around the comparison between our fingers and hot dogs.
