No kids allowed

One local movie theater has decided that kids are not welcomed in their theater after 9 p.m. No, it's not because they are showing Debbie Does Dallas. According to management at the Cinemark Tinsletown Westchase theater, past troubles with loitering is the reason for the new policy (which has actually been in effect since April).

We have altering opinions about the new policy. While it’s not really fair to outcast the teenagers for late night movies, we’re also tired of not being able to enjoy the movies due to talking, running around, and cell phones (next time we hear a 15 year old answers her phone during a movie and says “Hello? … Oh, nothing,” there may be more than popcorn thrown from the seats). Do we sound like grumpy old people? Nah!

While this location is the only one to enact this policy so far, if successful, we’re sure other theaters will follow suit. We’ve noticed some of these problems at several of the larger theaters, which is why we like places like River Oaks Theater, Greenway Theater (except the seats), and Angelika downtown. The young ‘uns don’t seem to patronize those places as much – maybe they’re not into flicks like Sketches of Frank Gehry or A Prairie Home Companion?
