We managed to snag a pass to a sneak peak of the new flick, “The Break-Up” , featuring the (still unconfirmed) real life couple Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, last night at the Marq-E. And with overpriced and over buttered popcorn and cherry flavored frozen beverage in hand, we sat through almost two hours of bickering.
The romantic comedy is about a couple who breaks up (hence the title of the movie) and both refuse to move out of the fabulous Chicago condo they’ve renovated together. Gary (Vaughn) sets up camp in the living room and throws strip p0ker parties. Meanwhile, Brooke (Aniston) invites her brother’s irritating a cappella group to practice in her bedroom while Gary is trying to sleep. An all out war is on while they try to decide on who gets the place they both love.
The ending of the movie is anti-climactic, to say the least. The original ending didn’t test well with audiences, so a “one-year later” scenario was tacked onto the end. We would give away the ending, but it’s pretty obvious without even seeing it.
We’ll give the movie a solid “OK”, but that’s about it. It often happens that the best parts of a movie are in the previews, and that's what you get with “The Break-Up”. By the time you get to the movie, you’ve seen almost every really funny bit. Not that they aren’t funny the second (or third, or fourth) time around. There isn’t much chemistry between Aniston and Vaughn, and we spent the movie wondering if their real life romance is just a PR move.
Speaking of PR moves, Universal Pictures, who put out “The Break-Up”, is declaring June 2 National Break-Up Day. So if you’re thinking about giving that special someone the boot, remember to record over “that” video tape, and you must delete them from your MySpace. Then go find yourself someone new.
"The Break-Up" opens June 2.
